An evening of music, art and '60s fashion.

It was Friday the 13th but the evening bestowed luck on a group of art enthusiasts, The Broken Arts. Soundtracked 24: Factory 2012 had the highest turnout for the group. The bodies of 50 guests, plus the artists and musicians, generated warmth in Mad Café, a relief from the evening’s chilling air.

The business of coffee and cupcake relief may as well have served as a time machine that night, with guests dressed in ‘60s-inspired attire.

Durham College student Cassy Goulding planned the night. She chose the theme to be ‘60s and Broken Arts leader Harley Pageot added an emphasis on Andy Warhol and his factory.

“I just really love the vintage oldie feel,” Goulding said.

“I think there are a lot of really great icons from the ‘60s to have fun with.”

Girls had headbands and hippie dresses. Poet Brock Mundy transformed into Warhol. Goulding wore thick eyeliner and large earrings as a nod to Warhol’s superstar factory girl, Edie Sedgwick.

As people leafed through The Broken Arts merchandise table with zines and a guestbook centrepiece where guests added their own scribbles and doodles, the music of The Cane Toads, Chris and Cassy and Viva Mars bounced in their ears.

Some guests and event co-ordinators left with a little more. Goulding left an official member of the group. The Watershed Hour left with the honour, and a Broken Arts created trophy, for Artist of the Year. An end of year poll was conducted in December open to the public; Viva Mars was third for the title.

Mundy ended the night with a gift pack of stickers, CDs and zines, his Andy Warhol image scoring him first place in the costumer contest.

It was a concert that won Goulding the chance to curate the event. At The Broken Arts’s last Halloween event she won a costume contest by dressing as the White Swan from the award winning film, The Black Swan.

As with every Broken Arts event, the show was all-ages.

Soundtracked 25 will be perform Feb. 17, 2012.
